The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Petty Officer Kerry R. Bignall, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Combat Air Crewman while flying combat missions with Observation Squadron Sixty-seven during operations against Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Regular Units in the Republic of Vietnam while in direct support of United States Army and Marine ground forces in close contact with the enemy from 15 November 1967 to 2 July 1968.
Petty Officer Bignall’s coolness under fire and undaunted courage allowed his aircraft to complete its assigned missions over the Ho Chi Minn Trail and at the Siege of the Marines at Khe Sann.
His ability to place devastating fire in close on the enemy protected his crew and aircraft resulting in the successful completion of these missions.
Petty Officer Bignall contributed materially to the success of U.S. operations in the Republic of Vietnam and aided in saving of countless lives of U.S. and allied servicemen.
By his duty, Petty Officer Bignall reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Technical Sergeant Frederick J.
O’Laughlin for extraordinary achievement, while serving as a Gunner of a B-24
Airplane on many bombardment missions over enemy occupied Continental
Europe.
Displaying great courage and
skill, this Enlisted Man, fighting from his gun position, has warded off many
enemy attacks and has materially aided in the successful completion of each of
those missions.
The courage, coolness
and exceptional skill displayed by this Enlisted Man on all those occasions
reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United
States.

Stevens, Joseph W

presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to 1

Lt. Joseph W.
Stevens, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on
3 May 1945. Lieutenant Stevens
distinguished himself when his C47 was hit by a flak burst flying over Germany. His plane lost an engine, the throttle and
prop control was gone, the left wing, fuselage, and radio compartment were
damaged. Lieutenant Stevens managed to
bring the C47 back safely to a French fight strip near Verdun even though the
field was below minimums. The plane was
so damaged that it was totaled. His
outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest
traditions of the military serve, and reflect great credit upon himself, his
unit, and the United States Air Force.
